Is CBD Oil too Good to be True?
I had dismissed CBD (cannabidiol) oil from the hemp plant as just another scam or fad before even doing the research.
I thought of CBD hemp oil as just one more make-a-quick-buck supplement you don’t need, promising to cure all that ails you without having to make any real lifestyle changes.
Skeptic though I am, I have changed my tune about CBD oil as I wade through the research.
The Stigma of marijuana
Even though marijuana has helped cancer patients and others in pain, I was leery of anything that gives you the munchies and makes you high.
Nowadays things are different than back in the ’70s. With medical marijuana, there are a lot of intelligent people using the herb responsibly.
The stigma is still there but the laws are changing fast for both hemp and marijuana.
Back in the 70s, I had been best friends in middle school with two hippie girls whose mom was a drunken pot-head-welfare-bum who spent all their monthly assistance check on pot and booze every month.
The children often had no food for days and my mom got tired of feeding them while their mom was out partying with low life men.
But CBD oil solves the whole problem since it doesn’t get you high there is no fear of abusing it.
None at all!
Before becoming educated about the benefits of CBD oil hemp oil CBD oil I would run, not walk, the other way.
Intelligent people are using CBD oil medicinally
I recently reconnected with my friend Dianna Whitley on Facebook. Knowing she is a shrewd businesswoman I asked her if she wanted to get involved with Beautycounter, the high end safer makeup company I recently became a distributor for. (Sorry, had to put a plug in for my new favorite.)
I was disappointed that I couldn’t snag her for my makeup business. But I took notice because I have known Dianna for over 20 years and worked with her in a wellness company in back in 2004.
Dianna has a discriminating mind and if she was involved with what I thought of as a “hippy snake oil product” it couldn’t be all bad, so I listened to her story.
Dianna has been in the wellness field for over 20 years and has a background as a hypnotherapist. When the recession hit in 2008, she had to close the doors of the hypnosis center she had for over 10 years, let all of her employees go, and regroup.
She tried a few different wellness companies in search of something she could really believe in that had ethical high-quality products.
Dianna first got into wellness because of her own health issues with chronic back pain due to scoliosis and immune system problems which caused her to be sick all the time with cases of flu one after the other.
This chronic illness was a blessing in disguise because it made her become one of the most educated people on alternative health I know of.
Dianna found that taking a few drops of the oil throughout her day was helping her back pain. Within 2-weeks she noticed a marked difference, so she signed up as a distributor and is going strong.
That made me dive into the research and order some CBD oil. The antioxidant strength had to be incredible to make the pain go away that fast.
Changing the Future Outcome
The company Dianna works with is called CTFO, (short for Changing the Future Outcome). The product is Third-party, GMP certified. CTFO is a direct marketing company that seems to have it together. They don’t charge any fees to join or have any crazy monthly quotas for their reps. Their tech is up to date and they have a line of products made with care and transparency about their ingredients.
The Proof for CBD Oil Benefits is Growing
There have been thousands of studies of the cannabis plant and quite a few studies of CBD oil specifically over the last 20 years. The FDA approved three cannabinoids as drugs in 2018:
Epidiolex (cannabidiol or CBD) is an oral solution to treat seizures associated with two rare, severe forms of epilepsy.
Two synthetic cannabinoids, dronabinol, and nabilone were created to treat nausea in chemo patients and a secondary use to enhance appetite in aids patients.
The National Academies of Health Science and Engineering on the positive effects of cannabis and cannabinoids:
- Patients with chronic pain who were treated with cannabis or cannabinoids experienced a significant reduction in pain symptoms.
- For adults with multiple sclerosis-related muscle spasms, short-term use of certain oral cannabinoids improved their symptoms.
- In adults with chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, there was conclusive evidence that certain oral cannabinoids were effective in preventing and treating those symptoms.
The benefits of medicinal marijuana without the high
The best part?
CBD Oil does not get you high, so you can function in daily life while getting the benefits that people get from medical marijuana.
CBD oil is a non-intoxicating medicinal compound from the hemp strain of the cannabis plant.
CBD stands for Cannabidiol, the main active compound in hemp. Cannabidiol is one of over 85 cannabinoids that have been identified in the cannabis plant. Hemp is one of two plants in the cannabis family. Hemp has been bred to have no psychotropic effects and very low amounts of the active ingredient THC that causes the high people get from Marijuana products.
World Health Organization Study on CBD Oil
The World Health Organization has done an in-depth study on CBD and found it to be safe and useful in many treatments including the treatment for epilepsy, without risks of a dependence of Marijuana. Although human studies are limited so far there are promising preliminary results. You can download the study and peruse at your leisure.
And that’s not all CBD oil is good for…
CBD oil treats a wide array of symptoms and disorders:
- Chronic pain and inflammation
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Cancer and the side effects of chemotherapy
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Menopause symptoms
- Preliminary studies show potential for treating generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder panic disorder, and PTSD
- Increases growth of new neurons in the hippocampus, possibly improving symptoms of depression and anxiety.
- CBD Oil may change gene expression in Alzheimer’s by removing amyloid plaque from brain cells.
- Inhibits psychotic symptoms of schizophrenia.
- Reduction of breast cancer cell proliferation
And the list goes on.
Are hemp and marijuana the same plant?
The answer is yes and no.
Here’s the deal:
Hemp and marijuana originally come from the same cannabis plant but are different strains that have been developed for different uses.
Weed is bred for a potent high
Marijuana is bred to have high levels of THC and uses the buds and leaves of the plant. this gives people a powerful high and is also used for many medicinal treatments.
Hemp is like marijuana with all the benefits except the high
Hemp is another strain of the same plant but is very low in THC with less than 0.3% THC and does not have any psychoactive effects. Hemp has a higher concentration of CBD or cannabidiol and uses the stems, seeds and stalks and fiber for extraction of a full spectrum oil. Originally Hemp was mostly used for industrial purposes.
There are numerous different compounds in the cannabis plant that are just beginning to be understood for their medicinal powers. Many researchers are working on figuring out exact dosages and use for the many compounds.
A short history of hemp
It turns out hemp oil has gotten a bad rap by association with marijuana. In the early 20th century hemp was grown by just about every farmer. There was a quota that every farmer had to fill. Hemp was a staple crop and was so valuable that you could pay your taxes with bags of hemp seeds back in the 1930s. It was used for everything from fabric to medicinal oils to rope, paper and more.
But the paper pulp companies wanted hemp out of the way. So, they outlawed marijuana and hemp since they were two different strains of the cannabis plant.
The movie Reefer Madness, (1936) is a propaganda film made by a church group to warn parents about the evils of marijuana. It was bought by an exploitation filmmaker who added a bunch of sexy footage and the stigma of anything in the cannabis family was sealed.
Suddenly no one was growing hemp anymore and the paper industry was happy.
As big Pharma got itself going and began to create HMO’s for profit it was more than happy to see cannabis go under because of its many medicinal uses.
There is growing evidence for the power of medical uses for the cannabis plant and mainstream medicine is starting to study the effects.
Is CBD Hemp oil legal in the USA?
Hemp became a controlled substance in 1970 along with marijuana and was illegal in all states until recently. In states that have legalized marijuana yes CBD oil is legal in other states, it is still illegal and is treated like marijuana.
The Hemp Farming Act spearheaded by Senator Mitch McConnell is an attempt to make hemp back into an ordinary farming crop. It is just good business since we buy so many hemp products from importers. But it has not passed yet.
As of December 2018, we are on the verge of having hemp legal in all 50 states because of the many benefits both medicinally and in manufacturing for everything from automotive to antibacterial properties for health care.
The hemp plant is:
- Rich in essential fatty acids
- Rich in antioxidants
- Inexpensive and fast growing
- Sustainable for making paper products
- Has high absorption capabilities for concrete
- An alternative source for glass and other construction materials
- Can be used to make a bioplastic product that is stronger and lighter than polypropylene plastic.
How CBD Oil works
The endocannabinoid system in the human body is delicately receptive to the cannabis plant because of natural brain compounds similar to those found in the cannabis plants
endocannabinoids are the natural-cannabis-like molecules produced by the human body. This chemical system has receptors throughout the human brain nervous system and the entire body.
The Endocannabinoid system is important for homeostasis in the body and can help in regulating diabetes and cancer.
How to buy CBD oil
You can purchase CBD oil through my friend Dianna’s company with my trustworthy link
If you decide to shop around, make sure you get CBD oil, not hemp seed oil. Hemp seed oil is not the same as CBD hemp oil which uses the stems and pulp, not just the seeds.
Hemp seed oil is a nutty tasting oil from hemp seeds used similarly to olive oil for salads and for making soap and lotions. But this is not the medicinal oil because it only contains miniscule amounts of CBD oil.
Since some CBD oil often does contain trace amounts of THC if you are going to be drug tested for work make sure you order the isolated form that contains zero THC.
Lower priced products may be very diluted and contain very few milligrams of CBD oil. Learn how to choose the right CBD oil.
CBD hemp oil is extracted from hemp plant including leaves and stalks and contains the medicinal compounds found in the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids.
The THC content of your hemp CBD oil needs to be 0.30 or less to comply with federal laws. Make sure the company you buy from has product verification by a third-party lab.
I ordered the extra strength isolate CBD oil and will try it out for a month. At 45 to 99 dollars a bottle, the high-quality CBD oil isn’t cheap but none of the supplements I take are inexpensive. The food I eat is mostly organic and I only take herbs that I know are of the highest quality.
I am dedicated to blowing up the myths and finding the right products to keep us healthy even if it means becoming a hemp oil peddler, one of those people I used to run-and-not-walk away from as fast as I could.
